Japan has said radioactive meltdowns may have occurred in two reactors of the quake-hit Fukushima nuclear plant.

Manila, PHL- There had been text messages circulating that there will be "acid rain" in the Philippines due to the radioactive clouds that form from the nuclear leak in Japan. This "news" spread like wildfire and caused apprehension among people.

But this was denied by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), saying that there was no basis for such rumors.

"The winds from Japan are moving away from us. It's not true that these winds contain acid rain." said PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio in a radio interview.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) also said that the radiation emitted form the nuclear plant in Fukushima posed a "very little threat" to the Philippines. Hoever, their nuclear scientists were constantly monitoring the radiation.

Meanwhile, the Japanese government confirmed that the third nuclear reactor in Fukushima, Japan had exploded late Monday morning. The government is now desperately making extra efforts to prevent the possibility of a nuclear meltdown, similar to what had happened in Chernobyl, Russia in 1986.
